Oh shit! How To Make A Guest Account Admin Again?
Solutions for the Average User.
Operating System: Windows 7.
So you played around with settings and decided that it was more convenient to automate login by removing a password off your Administrator level main account. Or something like that, I guess. Anyway, your main account is now transformed into a Guest account. Good job, your life is now GG-fied.
Or not…?
If you’re an average user, with little or no experience with the technical side of stuff, what would you do?
1: Attempt to change password / manage other accounts, etc… FAIL. UAC gets in your way.
2: UAC (User Access Control) keeps getting in your way. So you try to disable it. FAIL. You need an admin password for it. And here comes another UAC prompt.
2: Google terms like “make guest admin”, “deleted admin account”, “forgot admin password”, “password recovery”, “login recovery”
3: Try to install password recovery programs and then realise that you need to get past the UAC. FAIL. THEY REQUIRE UAC TO BE INSTALLED. FAIL.
More and more websites are telling you to reinstall windows, but your computer either doesn’t have a CD drive or you really don’t want to restore all your settings. And other websites are telling you to try hard to remember the Administrator account password.
But then, you don’t remember setting such a password!!! :(
OKAY! If you’re at this stage, congrats!!! Why? Because you’ve ALMOST found the solution.
First of all, take a piece of paper: you gotta write this down: netplwiz. do you see it? NETPLWIZ. yes, write it down. doesn’t matter if your handwriting sucks. Also write down F8.
Secondly, shut down and restart your comp… Spam the key “F8”. No, it’s not F and 8, it’s F8. The row above your numbers in the keyboard.
Third, click on the option Safe Mode. You will see an Administrator account isntead of yoru usual login. Good. Click it.
HEY!!! You get access to it without a password??? Yeah, I know, I felt this way too when I did it. That’s only because you’ve never set a password for the Administrator account.
Now, in safe mode, click on the Start Button / Orb and type in the search bar: netplwiz. In case you forgot how to spell it, you’ll see it written down on the piece of paper from just now.
From here on, you’ll see an entry with your account name on it. Click on Properties > Group Memembership> Administrator > Okay.
For convenience’s sake, if you WERE trying to remove a password from your user account previously, click on the Change Password / Reset Password button and leave both entries blank. This will disable the password for your administrator account.
Now, you’ve done all the important stuff. Okay on everything, close everything, and restart your computer.
Now not only does your account login automatically everytime, it also is an Administrator. :)
Yay you! ^^
